About me
My name is Kristine Rubene, I am an artist – painter, based in Riga, Latvia. I have been teaching painting in Art Academy of Latvia for 20 years.
In my art I want to combine knowledge of painting techniques and skills with modern thinking .
My works have been created over a long period of time, each has been painted for months, by reflecting over every centimetre, applying the lazure paint coat after coat, by layering, drying and layering again and again. It might be called Slow Painting.
I studied painting in the same academy in which I am now teaching – Art Academy of Latvia and also I studied in exchange program in University of Sunderland. Since then I have held 12 solo exhibitions, mostly in Latvia, but also in d’Haudresy Art Gallery, Knokke-Heist (Belgium) and Dom Knigi i Grafiki, Saint Petersburg (Russia). I have participated Erasmus and Erasmus+ programme in Europes best art universities Accademia di Belli Arti Brera (Milan), UDK and Berlin-Weisensee School of Art and Design (Berlin), Akademia Sztuk Pieknych w Warszawie (Poland) and others. Three times I have been given Teterev foundation grant for creative trips to New York and Umbria region in Italy. I believe that by seeing the worlds best galleries and museums I can improve myself and my work.
